Anyway, I figured this is as good a place as any to plug animal rescue! I volunteer with Toronto Animal Services in the small animal area. Mostly we get rabbits (lots and lots of rabbits!) although recently we've had an avalanche of hamsters, and we get guinea pigs fairly often. Birds usually get transferred to a specialized parrot rescue.
The south shelter is a wonderful place, but very few people consider shelters when looking to adopt small animals. Everyone knows you can adopt a shelter dog or cat, but when most people thinkg rabbit/hamster/guinea pig, they think pet store. Which is silly, because all of our rabbits are lovely creatures
Anyway, I write a blog on the small animals at the shelter, and I've been told to advertise it more

You may notice there are a lot of hamsters at the moment. Well, first a litter of 7 came in with their mom, too young to stay at the shelter. Then a few weeks later, three orphaned babies came in, much too young to be surrendered, and we paired them up with the mom of the first litter. So, now we are the caretakers of 11 hamsters. Exciting!

I slowy watch the clouds drifting away
Still the sun can't warm my face
I know it was destined to go wrong
You were looking for the great escape to
chase your demons away."
